How to Track Link Clicks from Different Videos

Compare clicks from YouTube, TikTok and Facebook posts using separate tracking links for the same destination. Includes a worked view-efficiency example.

If several videos use the same referral link, the destination’s total referrals won’t show which video sent the traffic. Start by giving each placement a different tracking URL. Those URLs can all lead to the same original destination.

  1. Save the complete destination URL. In Clusstr’s Content tracking dashboard, add a destination such as “Referral offer.” Include the full referral code and query parameters.
  2. Create a separate link for each placement. Name the video or post, choose its platform, and optionally save its original post URL. A YouTube description and a pinned comment can have separate tracking links even when they belong to one video.
  3. Place each URL only where it belongs. Use that URL on the named post wherever the platform supports a clickable link. Reusing one tracking URL across unrelated videos combines their traffic.
  4. Record the starting view count. Enter zero for a brand-new post, or the current view count when adding a link to an older post. Leave it blank if you don’t know it.
  5. Compare clicks and update views. Check daily clicks, filter by destination/platform, and save current views in Details and views. You can sort by period clicks or clicks per 1,000 new views.

More views can produce fewer clicks per view

Raw clicks help you see volume. Comparing them with new views can help you notice content that attracts fewer viewers but prompts more link activity.

Illustrative figures, not actual creator results
PostNew viewsSaved clicksClicks / 1,000 new views
YouTube video A2,00084
TikTok post B100550

Post B has a higher click rate in this example, while video A sends more total clicks. Both samples are small. Collect more activity and compare similar time windows before deciding what to promote.

Clicks per 1,000 new views = saved clicks ÷ (current views − starting views) × 1,000

Clusstr saves the click count when you update views, so the numerator and denominator belong to the same snapshot. The snapshot stays separate from the click chart’s selected date range.

What click tracking can and cannot tell you

  • Clicks are requests to open a link. They don’t prove a completed referral, signup, purchase or email.
  • Repeat clicks can count. Clusstr filters known bots, prefetches, signed-in owner visits and browser privacy signals where detectable; the result is still approximate.
  • View counts are entered manually. Clusstr doesn’t automatically sync platform views or identify unique viewers.
  • A reshared URL keeps its original placement label. Treat platform labels as your assignments, rather than proof of where every click happened.

Use a shortener for simpler sharing

If you only need a clean address for a destination, use the free URL shortener with click tracking. Use Content tracking when you want several distinct links pointing to that same destination. Both share the ten-link allowance of a free account, and paused links still count.

Compare the content you already publish

Create a free account, save a destination, and give your next post its own tracking link.
